From reading various tech reviews and angry blogs, one might think that Vista is entirely unstable and far worse then XP in every respect. This is simply not true.
Now, I have only been using Vista for about a week, but I have yet to see any major instability or to find any vital features missing. I really don’t see what the big outcry was about.
Of course some new features are annoying but most are useful and well thought out. The start menu search, the file browsing drop menu, and the more powerful Task Manager, are all improvements I enjoy.
Most of the things I didn’t like about Vista were just default configuration choices and it was easy to tweak the settings to my satisfaction. Now everything is running just the way I want, with no major headaches.
Admittedly Vista is a bit of a resource hog and runs heavier then XP, but it has also got a whole lot more going on. From special accessibility features to a new indexing system, and not to mention all the eye candy.
The one feature that I would like to have used but found to be sub par was voice recognition. It just isn’t functional enough to be useful and ends up being more of a hassle then it’s worth.
All things considered Vista is a pleasant surprise for me. It works well, runs what I need, looks good and has many useful new features.
Altogether a nice Operating System.
